Association Inc. organises masses
of rides around Brisbane and surrounds.They have rides with varying tempos from leisurely to fast paced (some
even have coffee stops on the way) if you wanting to meet some fellow cycling

Avanti Women’s
Ride and Workshop (Free)
Rides start 6.30 am Nundah Criterium Circuit, Hedley
Avenue Nundah.
Seminar 8.30 to 10 am at the same venue.
Join other women on either a leisurely 20km ride around the Boondall Wetlands
and Nudgee Beach, or an energetic 40km up to Redcliffe and back. Followed by a
seminar on cycling for women, covering issues like starting out and buying your
first bike, cycling with kids, cycling as sport, and body stretches for women.

Mountain Biking
- Come and Try (Free)
Think mountain biking is all about thrashing through
the bush? Think again! It’s low-impact, environmentally friendly,
carbon-neutral physical exercise! Come and try it at Gap Creek Reserve, Gap
Creek Road. Experienced riders will lead small groups and demonstrate bike
handling skills with an obstacle course and slalom set up on the Reserve.

MONDAY 12 MARCH
10-speed dating
(Free)
Come and meet some fellow single cyclists and try
speed dating on two wheels. Last year’s event filled up early, so don’t miss
out. Event commences at 6pm at a mystery location in Brisbane’s CBD and
finishes over coffee at West End. Yes, this is a bike riding event, and yes,
you will need front and rear lights.

Queensland info night (Free)
Thousands of cyclists have enjoyed a Cycle Queensland 9-day
holiday on wheels over the past five years. What has been holding you back? In
2007 we’re riding from Miles to Mooloolaba. Come and hear all about it and have

Hamilton @ 7.10am
Brisbane Square (top of the mall), George St,
Brisbane.
Breakfast from 7am, prizes and presentations at 7.45am.
The annual sight of 1000 colourful cyclists invading the city in the morning
really lets people know – Bike Week is on! Ride in with friends or workmates or
even better – bring a new rider and spread the fun of riding to work. A
great new Raleigh flat-bar road bike will be given away, and a breakfast
including pancakes, cereal, buns, fruit, delicious flavoured Pura milk and
yoghurt, yummy Emma and Tom’s Life Juice, and fantastic Merlo coffee will be a
reward for every rider there. Plus, plenty of other prizes too!
New riders are especially welcome. There are 34 start locations around

It’s Ride to Uni day too – University of Queensland students and staff
will be well fed by the UQ SPORT team with a brekkie on the St Lucia campus
between 8 and 9am. The new Eleanor Schonell Bridge has opened up cycling to Uni

Leisure Rides (Free)
The antithesis of Ride To Work is tootling around
the bike paths on a beautiful Brisbane day and finishing the ride with coffee
and cake. Join our free rides in the north, south, east or western suburbs, led
by our good friends from the Brisbane Bicycle Touring Association.

WEST: A Centenary Ride, around 20km, 15km/h average, mostly flat. Ride leaves
Mt Ommaney Library Carpark, 123 Dandenong Road at 10am sharp, explore the old
cement works park, Jindalee Creek, Edenbrook pathways, Rocks, to Samarco’s for
coffee, then return to the Library. Should be back by 12 noon. Leader: Stephen
Jackson.
NORTH: Leave Eagle Junction Railway Station at 9:30am for a very enjoyable and
flat ride. Joining the Kedron Brook bike path at Kalinga Park we’ll head for
Nudgee Beach and continue along the Schulz Canal bike path for morning tea at
Pam and Harry’s cafe before returning. 25km at a leisurely 15km/h. Leader:
Elizabeth Catchpole.
SOUTH: Leave Loganlea Railway Station (Carnival St) at 9.00am. A leisurely ride
of 25km around some of Logan’s bikeways and quiet streets before exploring a
few country roads on the way back to coffee at Waterford West. Undulations will
be taken sedately and there will be rest stops and regroupings to keep the
group together. Leader: Kurt Doerr.
EAST: Meet at 9.30am at the Pandanus Beach wading pool at Wynnum for a
leisurely 25km ride along the waterfront as far as Lota, from where we take the
new bike paths and boardwalk around to complete a loop on the Thorneside
waterfront. We retrace our steps for a coffee at Manly before the short ride
back to the starting point. Leader: Bob Schofield.

Australian Bicycle Council. Come and hear cycling industry and Government
representatives from around Australia tell positive stories of facilities built
and attitudes changed, with cycling the real winner. 5.30-7pm at the Brisbane

Getting into
the road racing scene (Free to attend)
Conducted by the Hamilton and Pine Rivers Wheelers
Cycling Club (HPRW) - Nundah Criterium Circuit, Hedley Ave - 6.45am - 7.45am.
Bring your road bike along to a free seminar on how to get into SE Queensland’s
club road racing scene. HPRW officials will give short briefings on the types
of road race events, racing skills, tactics, licence requirements, training
hints and bike requirements. At 7.45am, participants may choose to enter a real
club road race with other novice/first time racers. Please register your
interest in attending the free seminar by contacting Kim Flesser, e-mail hprw@ourbrisbane.com
or phone 34032210. Note: To race, riders must purchase a racing licence which will be available
on the day. Cost is $18 for a one day licence, or proportionally much cheaper
for longer periods up to a year. Even if you choose not to race,
practice/training after the HPRW race meeting at the circuit is free.
